Qualifications

  • Previous experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Job description

Our team of acute physicians describe themselves as a passionate team; because of their fantastic progress the last 5 years we are looking to further expand our acute medical workforce to support our portfolio of acute services.

We are looking to recruit two proactive, forward thinking and dynamic individuals to join our expanding team.

The acute medicine team is located in a purpose built Acute Medical Unit, next to the Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit and Emergency Dept, and in close proximity to the Surgical Assessment Unit and ITU areas.

We are actively recruiting to two posts to establish an acute physician consultant model of 14 substantive consultants.

The role involves working alongside a multi-disciplinary team covering key service areas To achieve this the team work flexibly within the acute medical bed base: Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Acute Frailty Unit (AFU, alongside the frailty team), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and the Emergency Department (ED).

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this post are the assessment, early decision-making and close co-ordination of the clinical care of patients in the acute medicine bed base, and the provision of leadership to the acute medical take.

Job responsibilities

Clinical duties are performed according to an agreed job plan which describes weekly working in a rotational arrangement with other acute physicians in terms of DCC and SPA activity.

The job plan makes explicit allowance for clinical administration within the working week in the form of 1 PA based on a 10PA job plan or above. The rota for the team is done within the team to allow for cross cover and continuity of care. This post involves premium working hours including evening and weekend working. The post is offered on a full-time basis. Office accommodation and medical secretarial/clerical service will be provided.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Qualifications
  • Primary Medical Qualification MBChB or equivalent
  • CCT in General Internal Medicine or Geriatric Medicine by the time of taking up appointment or able to complete The Portfolio Pathway within 24 months of appointment
  • MD or PhD
  • CCT in both Geriatric and General medicine
Training
  • 4-5 years training at registrar level in GIM/Acute Medicine
Experience
  • Daily independent ward rounds on acutely ill patients
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level and takes full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
Teaching
  • Previous experience in participating in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
