Job description

Location - London or Edinburgh with hybrid working available

LCP is an award-winning actuarial and analytics consultancy providing market-leading capabilities and advice across pensions and financial services, energy, health, and analytics. We use powerful analytics fused with human expertise to shape a more positive future.

We have an exciting opportunity to join LCP as a Consultant in our Data Services Team. Our Data Services team is rapidly expanding, as we increase our offering to clients, particularly in the de-risking space. To facilitate this growth, we are recruiting individuals with a knowledge of Defined Benefit pensions for client facing, technical roles, to bolster our existing team. Everyone in the team has their own client mix, meaning that everyone works with lots of different people from across Data Services and wider LCP to advise a range of different clients, whether they be existing ongoing clients or standalone projects. This means that the client work is varied and interesting, and there are always new opportunities to learn from others.

What will you be doing?
  • Advising clients on data risks and supporting the development of scheme-level data strategies
  • Reviewing data readiness for endgame strategies including run-on and buy-ins and buy-out
  • Undertaking complex benefit rectification projects, such as GMP rectification, equalisation and Barber window exercises
  • Undertaking data cleanse projects for schemes, including benefit tranching and reconstruction
  • Reviewing data to support member communication exercises or benefit changes

You’ll collaborate closely with LCP’s actuarial, administration and pension risk transfer teams, while also helping shape internal project methodologies and developing the next generation of tools and approaches.

We are seeking actuaries who are enthusiastic about working on dynamic and fast-paced projects. You will utilise your technical expertise to create and execute solutions, as well as provide advisory services to our clients. As part of your responsibilities, you will collaborate closely with Data Services management and other key stakeholders in LCP’s wider business. There will be opportunities to attend client meetings to help develop consulting skills, whether that be presenting results, providing project updates or advising on methodology.

What skills and experience are we looking for?
  • At least 5 years' experience working in the UK pensions actuarial consulting environment. It is not a requirement that you be seeking Fellowship of the Institute of Actuaries.
  • Strong UK pensions technical knowledge - wider experience reviewing technical work such as actuarial valuation and member options calculations
  • The ability to lead a team completing significant projects, delegating tasks to less experienced members in the team, explaining the wider context
  • Good commercial awareness with the ability to consider agreed budgets when carrying out work

Experience within data rectification projects or GMP equalisation would be ideal but is not a requirement as we are happy to provide training as required.

What qualities and behaviours should you bring?
  • Technically strong and able to propose your own ideas on how to approach complex calculations
  • Good communication skills - able to explain the approach taken and results to more senior team members, and be willing to challenge
  • Ability to prioritise workloads with conflicting importance and flexibility to adapt to different client needs
  • Team player with the ability to build strong relationships both within and outside LCP
  • Approachable and happy to assist less experienced team members, fostering a supportive working environment
What's in it for you?

LCP’s Data Services department is growing as we expand our client base and continue to take on new projects for our existing clients. Our goal is to be the leading long-term partner for DB advice and deliver better outcomes for members, trustees, sponsors and society. With this comes opportunities to work on wide-ranging clients and projects and progress within the business.
