Job summary

HCRG Care Group in Bath and Wiltshire seeks a Consultant Paediatrician to deliver specialist assessments for children and families in the community, with responsibility for ongoing care and safeguarding on-call rotations.

Qualifications

  • UK recognised medical degree.
  • Current GMC registration.
  • Must be on the specialist register or within six months of obtaining CCT.
  • MRCPCH/MRCP or equivalent.
  • Two years higher specialist training in community paediatrics or equivalent.
  • Experience in child protection assessment (level 3).
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team with primary and social care partners.

Job description

  • Deliver community paediatric clinics, assessing children with a range of concerns that are affecting their health, development or educational potential, in accordance with our established referral criteria. This includes medical assessments for the SEND process and children who are looked after or adopted. Complete their reports and administration in time scales as per departmental guidance and adhering to that from statutory agencies.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment and management in a collaborative way with all members of the team for initial assessments and follow-ups where relevant.
  • ontribute to the teaching and clinical supervision of paediatric trainees within the department and of undergraduate medical students.
  • Liaise with other health professionals to ensure coordinated management of assessments, treatment and follow up.
  • Participate in the safeguarding on call rota 8am - 8pm weekdays and 8am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday. This includes providing information and participating in strategy discussions.

You will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and ongoing care to children, young people and families in B&NES and Wiltshire. The post holder will share all aspects of community paediatric work with colleagues and should have relevant experience in clinical management of children, including those with neurodevelopmental difficulties, those who are looked after or adopted and safeguarding children. The post holder will take part in the child protection on-call rota. The child health department is a friendly and dynamic team of six consultants, and one associate specialist, and 4 GPwER based in St Martin's community hospital towards the south of the city of Bath and 4 consultants, 2 associate specialists and 5 GPwER based in Wiltshire. We are well supported by the Single Point of Access (SPA) and secretarial team. Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving, a CCT in paediatrics at the time of appointment.

Qualifications
  • UK recognised medical degree
  • Current full GMC registration
  • Must be on the specialist register or be within six months of obtaining CCT
  • Current work permit (if appropriate)
  • MRCPCH/MRCP or equivalent
  • 2 years higher specialist training in community paediatrics or equivalent
  • Evidence of training in all aspects of child protection assessment (including level 3 training)
  • Be able to take part in the child protection on call rota and ability to complete child protection reports for police and social services
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including with partners in primary care and social care
Desirable
  • CCT in community paediatrics
  • A specialist interest in looked after children or paediatric neuro-disability or other aspect of community child health
  • Advanced keyboard and IT skills
  • Formal teaching skills
  • Knowledge of Special Educational Needs procedures, health service responsibilities and proposed changes to SEND
  • Published research or audit
  • Experience of delivering training to other professionals
  • Experience of providing child protection reports for the courts
