Consultant Ophthalmologist SI in Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus

The closing date is 17 December 2025

The Ophthalmology Department at the Royal Devon is proud to be a centre of innovation and ambition, continuously advancing care and outcomes in the field of ophthalmology.

We are looking to appoint a dedicated locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus to join our experienced and supportive team for a fixed term period of 12 months, initially.

The postholder will be primarily based in Barnstaple, however, they will be expected to deliver activity across both sites, contributing to the delivery of high-quality paediatric ophthalmology care across the region. This may include travel to peripheral sites such as South Molton, Bideford, Centre of Excellence of Eyes (Nightingale), Axminster and Heavitree, supporting our commitment to equitable, region-wide care.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in comprehensive paediatric ophthalmology. An additional subspecialist interest in complex strabismus or ocular genetics is highly desirable, however any other areas of interest would be welcomed for the right candidate. A commitment to general ophthalmology, including outpatient clinics and participation in the on‑call rota, is also essential.
