Job description
Overview

This role involves assessments, management and treatment of patients mostly over 65 years of age with both organic and functional presentations. You will provide outpatient appointments and home visits, attend care homes and nursing homes across the catchment area, and undertake emergency and urgent clinical assessments, Mental Health Act assessments, and supervision of resident doctors within the team. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with colleagues inside and outside the team, and there are opportunities for collaborative working with system partners as PCNs and ICS evolve in the new community transformation model. The North Hub CMHT manages a caseload of approximately 1,900 patients with an average of 25–30 new referrals each week. Most new assessments are conducted by the allocated team clinicians and patients are allocated to doctors as appropriate.

We invite motivated and appropriately qualified candidates to join our team in the North Community Hub as a Consultant in Older People Psychiatry within our Specialist Dementia and Frailty Community Mental Health Team in the North of Birmingham. The base will be Reservoir Court in the Erdington area of Birmingham. The unit includes an inpatient service for older adults and CMHT offices for older adults and outpatient clinics. You will join one other Consultant, two Specialty Doctors, resident doctors, a Team Manager, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, CPNs, a Clinical Psychologist, OTs, HCAs, a Receptionist and team administration support. You will be part of a larger team that includes ten Community Consultants, three inpatient consultants and a Trust-wide Memory Assessment and Rare Dementia Service.
