Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with interest in Breast and Gynaecology. The role will be based at Royal Derby Hospital with some work at Queens Hospital Burton to cover Southern Derbyshire and South East Staffordshire.

We support flexible and sustainable job plans, including part-time options such as a 6 PA post with 4 or 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Provision of a comprehensive oncology service with consultant colleagues, including new patient and follow-up clinics at Derby and Burton.
  • Provision of emergency and reciprocal cover for colleagues during leave, with care of patients and supervision of trainees.
  • Care of patients in their charge and ensuring the proper functioning of the Department.
  • Undertaking teaching/training duties and participating in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes.
  • Participating in clinical and medical audit and contributing to Clinical Governance.
  • Engaging in continuing medical education (CME).

Job description

University Hospitals of Derby & Burton are seeking to recruit a Consultant Medical Oncologist, who together with 21 other Consultant Oncologists will provide a comprehensive service for the people of Southern Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.

We are looking for a Medical Oncologist that have particular interests in Breast and Gynaecology but are open to discussions around these and other tumour sites, knowing flexibility is important.

The posts are based at the Royal Derby Hospital with work at Queens Hospital Burton which provide Cancer Services for the population of Southern Derbyshire and South East Staffordshire.

The Cancer Business Unit is proud to offer high quality clinical care within flexible and sustainable job plan structures. We positively encourage part time working and are happy to recruit less than full time candidates to complement our existing medical team. If your preference is for less than full time hours, we have a number of potential job plans including a one tumour site 6 PA post working either 4 days per week or 5 days per week. We are happy to discuss other options if these are of interest.

The Appointee Will Be Responsible For
  • Provision of a comprehensive service in Oncology with consultant colleagues, including new patient and follow-up clinics at Derby and Burton. The Department also undertakes a variety of joint clinics with other specialties.
  • Provision of emergency cover and reciprocal cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave, on a shared basis. This will include care of patients and supervision of doctors in training.
  • The care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the Department
  • Undertaking teaching/training duties as required and actively participating in the postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes
  • Participating in clinical and medical audit and actively contributing in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance
  • Actively participating in continuing medical education (CME)
