Job description
Overview

A Consultant Interventional Radiologist is required at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust for a busy and expanding Department.

The post will include sessions at the two main hospital sites within an overall flexible group job planning format, with an agreed overall sessional make up. Any potential candidate who wishes to be considered for a part-time or flexible working arrangement is also welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job
  • Perform vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures carried out within the main site for inpatient and outpatient populations.
  • Contribute to the general diagnostic workload of the department and participate in the general radiology on-call rota (there is currently no out-of-hours interventional rota).
  • Develop and maintain advanced clinical skills relating to interventional patients.
  • Work flexibly according to changes in work patterns and requirements and participate in the general on-call rota (1:24 cross-county on call).
  • Prospective cover of annual and study leave is in place.
  • Involve in the organisation and administration of the Radiology Department and teaching of other clinical staff, including participation in regular clinico-radiological meetings with other Consultants.
  • Be involved in the training of junior Radiology staff.
  • Develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
  • Demonstrate excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
  • Deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
  • Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Job plan and responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week and will be reviewed annually. It covers clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, with a clear schedule of commitments and objectives linked to service improvements and trust priorities. For a full-time contract, the plan is typically 7.5 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 SPAs (supporting professional activities).

The allocation of PAs is subject to adjustment as required by service demand. Part-time applicants may have pro-rated PAs. If unable to work full-time, modification of job content will be discussed with the Trust in consultation with other consultants.
