Consultant Infection Specialist with a focus on tropical medicine and parasitology
A unique opportunity has arisen for a 4 PA Consultant in Infection with a specialist focus on Tropical Medicine and Parasitology at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD), part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).
This post will enhance consultant service delivery within the NHS England Highly Specialist Tropical Medicine and Parasitology Service, with a particular emphasis on the Clinical Parasitology Service and participation in associated national multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and expert multi‑disciplinary team comprising Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Consultants, Clinical Parasitologists, Tropical Dermatologists, Specialist Pharmacists, Nurse Specialists, and Laboratory Scientists.

The Consultant will support outpatient and inpatient infectious disease services at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), with a focus on tropical medicine and parasitology. The role averages four Programmed Activities (PAs) per week – three for clinical care and one for supporting professional activities – delivered on a rotational basis.
Clinical duties include outpatient parasitology and tropical medicine clinics, providing national‑level advice, chairing Parasitology MDT meetings, supervising trainees and specialist nurses, and delivering consultant‑led inpatient care on Ward T08. This includes managing complex infections such as tropical diseases, hospital‑ and community‑acquired infections, and infections in immunocompromised patients, including those with HIV.
Supporting activities include contributing to clinical guidelines, teaching and training, supervision, audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance, as well as maintaining professional development.
The Consultant will contribute to both outpatient tropical medicine and parasitology services and inpatient infectious disease services at University College London Hospitals (UCLH). The job plan will comprise 4 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week on average, delivered in a rotational manner with blocks covering these services.
