Job summary

Job description
Consultant in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery

The closing date is 22 December 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for a consultant post within a high volume, high quality Vascular service to replace a retired colleague. This post will complement the twelve (full and part time) surgeons, nine vascular interventional radiologists and one perioperative vascular physician working in the department in Hull. Our department enjoys an excellent working relationship between surgical and endovascular consultants and has a very strong track history in education, training and research. There are fantastic opportunities for practice development with experienced mentors at hand.

Main duties of the job

A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities (with minimum 1.5 SPA). Any extra programmed activities will be agreed at the job planning process with the Clinical Lead. Any such agreement will be made in writing and the additional programmed activities will be incorporated into the Job Plan schedule. The programme will include flexible theatre activity to use spare (backfill) capacity and potentially may move in future to include seven day or Saturday working.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
  • FRCS Vascular or equivalent
  • Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months)
  • Intercollegiate speciality examination or equivalent
  • PGC in appropriate subjects
  • Masters in appropriate subjects
  • MD or PhD
  • Qualification in duplex ultrasound
CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
  • Wide-ranging experience in vascular and endovascular surgery. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Vascular
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and planned within specialty
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Endovascular training and experience
Management and Administrative Experience
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of service
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
  • Ability to manage and lead surgical team
  • Ability to manage and lead specialist unit, surgical directorate and working parties as appropriate
  • Experience of audit management/Clinical Governance
Teaching Experience
  • Experience of supervising FY1/2, CT and ST trainees
  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Ability to teach research skills and supervise postgraduate research projects
