Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for two Permanent Part-Time Public Health Consultants to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Public Health Team.

Posts

Post 1: Permanent Part-time (0.6 Whole Time Equivalent). Responsibility for open access sexual health services, workforce health, asset based community development, community safety and gambling health harm.

Post 2: Permanent Part-time (0.7 Whole Time Equivalent). Focus on children and young people, mental wellbeing and suicide prevention.

We are open to applicants with interest in a full time equivalent post taking on the responsibilities of post 2 and some of those in post 1 above. You will be expected to apply your transferable skills to other public health priority areas in time.

Our Public Health Team is dedicated to improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of our community through innovative programmes and strategic initiatives. We work collaboratively with various stakeholders to address public health challenges, tackle health inequalities and promote health and wellbeing. About The Role

You will have responsibility for the development, implementation and delivery of national, regional and local policies, developing inter‑agency and interdisciplinary strategic plans and programmes, with delegated organisational authority to deliver key public health targets.

  • Providing expert public health advice and leadership
  • Develop and utilise information and intelligence systems to underpin public health action
  • Manage a team of public health staff and a dedicated budget holder
  • Commission research, audits and projects to translate findings into practice
  • Provide educational supervision to Public Health Specialist Registrars

About You
  • Inclusion in the GMC specialist register/UK Public Health Register with licence to practice or be within 6 months of inclusion on the register
  • Up to date continuing professional development in accordance with FPH requirements
  • Experience of managing a team and budget
  • Strong communication and influencing skillsDemonstrate a high level of competence in analysis and interpretation of complex data and information
  • Ability to design, develop, interpret and implement strategies and policies

We have flexible working and are in the office for a minimum of a day a week. Working hours and days will be agreed with the postholder, to include at least some Fridays each year.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £91,823 - £100,830. The starting salary is £91,823 with annual progression through the salary bands.
