A prominent NHS Trust in the UK is seeking a Consultant for head and neck surgical support. This is a full-time position with a focus on excisional and reconstructive surgeries for cancer patients, participating in a collaborative healthcare environment across multiple hospital sites. The role offers excellent NHS benefits including flexible working hours and professional development opportunities.
The appointee will provide Head and Neck Specialist and General Plastic Surgical support for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The majority of the work is dealing with head and neck cancers via the MDT and providing an excision and reconstruction service in partnership with other consultant colleagues. Participation in the general plastic surgery on call rota is expected. The consultant plastic surgery on call service is based on a hot week system with tier one and tier two cover. This provides 24-hour weekend cover for general plastic surgery including hand trauma followed by daytime cover from 07:00 to 18:00 when routine clinical commitments are suspended. Weekday nights (Monday to Thursday) are covered by a non- hot week consultant colleague on a rotational basis. The majority of adult hand trauma is managed via the ambulatory care centre staffed separately from the on-call team Monday to Friday. The NNUH functions as a burns facility with all resuscitation and complex burns being referred to the regional burns centre in Chelmsford.
Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant appointment with a view to augment the head and neck excisional and reconstructive service based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This is a full-time post of 10 PA post to join a department of 17 consultants and an existing team of 4 plastic surgery colleagues with sub-specialty interests in head and neck reconstructive surgery. The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust are now working in partnership as the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group. All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Service location may change as our future models of care are developed by our clinically led networks through our acute clinical strategy. Some of the clinical procedures or services the appointee will be expected to deliver may be based at sites other than their primary site of employment.
