Job description
Job Summary

We are seeking General Paediatric Consultants interested in working with the current team to further develop and extend our Integrated Children's Care model within North Cumbria. We are looking for applicants who are dynamic and forward thinking, who are interested in the full scope of practice of a General Paediatrician and who want to work within a role that encompasses close ties with Primary Care, Community and Hospital Paediatrics and who want to live and work in a beautiful part of Britain.

We strongly support the development and maintenance of Specialist Interests within Paediatrics with provision of outpatient services across both sites and the maintenance and development of shared-care for Children with Complex Health Needs with tertiary colleagues in Newcastle and other centres where this is best for the Child and family. Candidates with areas of special interest that complements the existing departmental clinical provision will be considered.

We would equally welcome applications from either experienced or newly trained Consultants. We are a developing and expanding team. The post holder will be primarily based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle but may undertake some acute and outpatient duties across the Trust sites on a rotational basis at both the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle (CIC) and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven (WCH).

Main Duties of the Job

Proposed Job Plan - see Appendix 1

The post will be flexibly time‑tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions will change as the service develops (see below - rotas).

The post‑holder will be site‑based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. The Job Plan will typically include an average of 2 or 3 clinics per week, rapid access clinics on a rotational basis, and Consultant of the week cover (1 week in 6). Proposed initial job plans for each site have been outlined in Appendix 1 and will be agreed on commencement of appointment.

Rotas

It is a full Tier 3 rota with non‑resident on‑calls at Consultant level. The Consultant is expected to lead the morning ward rounds in the working days and during the weekends when they are on‑call.

The Paediatric Service is committed to ensuring safe and effective acute services for children whilst maintaining the Work‑Life balance of its Medical Staff. Example Job Plans, current and future are provided in the Appendix.
