Job description
Consultant in Ophthalmology with Interest in Glaucoma

We are assisting a prestigious NHS Trust in the UK to recruit a Consultant in Ophthalmology with a focus on Glaucoma. This position can be offered on a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.

The department is highly active, with pre-COVID activity levels (2019/2020) including 18,111 new patients, 65,538 follow-up appointments, and 4,536 day cases. The service covers all major subspecialties, including cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic, cataract, neuro-ophthalmology, medical retina, uveitis, urgent care, and paediatric services. Urgent referrals are managed through Rapid Access Clinics at both hospitals.

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead specific duties within a multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Have a special interest and expertise in Glaucoma management.
  • Provide general ophthalmic services and cataract surgery.
  • Collaborate with Orthoptists and Optometrists.
  • Work closely with other Glaucoma consultants to improve service efficiencies.
  • Participate in incident reporting, risk management, and governance meetings.
  • Engage in audit activities and clinical teaching for undergraduates and junior staff.

The department faces a significant backlog of Glaucoma follow-up patients, and the appointee should be committed to enhancing clinical care quality.
