Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a large and innovative team within County Durham and Darlington, with approximately 4200 deliveries per year across both sites. We are looking to recruit a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. This is a permanent post. We are seeking someone with generalist skills, with opportunity and support to develop skills through working with colleagues in specialist areas. ATSMs in infertility and urogynaecology, as well as advanced ANcare, are particularly welcomed. The post will involve a weekly or fortnightly gynaecology, ANC and Caesarean Section list. Gynaecology clinics could be one-stop clinics, urogynaecology or fertility clinics. There will be opportunity for gynaecology theatre sessions dependent on the post-holder’s level of experience. A daytime Labour Ward will be one 24-hour day in three weeks, and the weekend rota is split weekends, 1:5.

Responsibilities
  • Weekly or fortnightly ANC and general gynaecology clinics. More specialist clinics/sessions may be added based on interests, experience and departmental needs (e.g., Vulval clinic, menstrual disorders clinic, Caesarean section list, infertility & urogynaecology).
  • Gynaecology theatre sessions, either independent or supervised, depending on level of experience.
  • Obstetric and Gynaecology on-call duties.
  • Participate in the Tier 3 non-resident on-call rota at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
  • Teaching and educational supervision for resident doctors; contribute to undergraduate teaching when required.
On-call, Education and Service Development
  • Educational supervision for residents and teaching sessions; support for the undergraduate teaching programme as required.
  • Educational supervision and leadership responsibilities for doctors in training within the Department.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring in the Department, and cover colleagues’ annual leave and short-term sickness as needed.
About Us
