Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology - 10 PAs (additional 0.5 PAs)

We are looking for two enthusiastic, forward‑thinking Consultants to join the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Team. The successful candidates will work alongside the existing team to help grow, develop and innovate the service to meet modern standards of care.

The Trust and Department are focused on meeting the challenges presented in the recent national review of maternity services, as well as delivering innovative models of care in Gynaecology, as part of the Trust's transition to a complete integrated care organisation with our community health, local authority and social care partners.

The department has a strong track record of postgraduate and undergraduate training.

Successful candidates must be qualified and proficient in gynaecology scanning and able to undertake major gynaecology surgery.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join the non‑resident on‑call rota. At present this is a 1:15, covering both obstetrics and gynaecology. The job plan will be flexible, depending on the specialist skills of the successful candidate.

  • Weekly gynaecology or antenatal clinic (depending on interest)
  • Out of hours on calls
  • Share in Elective Caesarean Section sessions
  • Specialist session – One Stop Post Menopausal Clinics, Out‑Patient Procedure Clinics, Infertility, Colposcopy
  • Elective gynaecology Theatre Sessions

The job plan will be agreed ahead of commencing employment.

  • Full registration with GMC and Inclusion on the specialist Register (min 6 months)
  • MB ChB or equivalent medical degree and MRCOG or equivalent
  • Completion of ST or equivalent rotation in Obs & Gynae and adequate experience
  • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice and any Gynaecology ATSM
  • Experience of clinical audit and writing clinical guidelines
  • Evidence of engagement in clinical governance procedures and risk management
  • Knowledge of NHS Management structures and issues
  • Evidence of involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Excellent communication skills and MDT working experience
  • Evidence of commitment to CPD and up to date knowledge of O&G
  • Additional ATSMs
  • Experience in research and have published articles
  • Experience in developing care pathways
  • Previous management experience and service reviews
  • Teaching qualification
  • Training in mentoring and educational supervision
  • Specialist Interest – e.g. Urogynaecology, Gynae Oncology, Termination of Pregnancy services, Fetal Medicine scanning, Gynae scanning/menopause, or other skill which complements the needs of the department
