Job description
Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry - Salisbury

The Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to work with MH Liaison team in Salisbury Foundation Trust (SFT), providing Clinical leadership. To provide rapid, prioritised and proportionate Consultant assessment and management of mental health needs within SFT. It is a great opportunity to work within an established multi-disciplinary team. Working with a team who believe in collaborative work and have the patient at the centre of their practise

They will work with the Team on quality improvement, including introducing innovative practice, improving safety, engagement with carers and psycho-education for patients.

Contribute to local academic programme teaching junior doctors, medical students and staff in allied professions. In addition, there is a monthly PDP group and Peer Supervision. CPD activities are supported. The post offers study leave arrangements as well as good research, service development and leadership opportunities.

Main duties of the job

As the consultant youwill your duties will include:

Assessment and management of in-patients with complex health care needs including co-morbid physical and psychiatric illness within SFT.

The post holder will assume Responsible Clinician (RC) status for inpatients within SFT and subject to the Mental Health Act.

Provide specialist psychiatric advice within the general hospital setting

Senior medical input into the multidisciplinary SFT Mental Health Liaison Team

Senior interface with AWP community mental health services to ensure optimum psychiatric liaison services at this interface.

Direct responsibility for working with a small number of complex cases: approximately 5 assessments and 6-8 reviews per week.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
Experience
  • Experience of assessing and treating patients in a community setting.
Personal Skills
  • To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Clinical Skills
  • Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in Older Adults and to deal with crisis situations.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
Teaching
  • Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching.
  • Understand principles of teaching.
Research and Audit
  • Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
  • Experience of carrying out an audit project.
Management
  • Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
