The Royal Devon is seeking to appoint a consultant to our department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology based at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) in Barnstaple.

Role Overview

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was established in April 2022, bringing together the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust. The departments of Gastroenterology and Hepatology are now integrated providing core services to a population of 615,000 and specialist services to a wider population across the South West Peninsula. Consultants deliver face‑to‑face, and virtual care from both Barnstaple and Exeter sites.

The Gastroenterology department is friendly, successful and ambitious. The Trust offers a supportive team of IBD, hepatology and nutrition specialist nurses and nationally recognised surgical teams. We have an electronic patient record (EPIC), a multi‑million‑pound research facility, a significant development budget and ambitious plans for the future. New consultants are encouraged to develop innovative services and pursue research and teaching interests. Relocation is supported with a generous financial incentive and relocation package.

Job responsibilities

Consultants will be expected to deliver clinical care, contribute to service development, support research projects, and engage in teaching activities. Specific duties include:
