Job description
Consultant in Fetal Medicine & Obstetrics

Medway NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant to deliver specialist Fetal Medicine and Obstetric care at the Medway Fetal and Maternal Medicine Centre (MFMC) and support the on‑call obstetric rota on the labour ward. The role will contribute to the Trust’s vision of “Best of Care by the Best People.”

Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum (pro rata). Contract: Permanent, full‑time. Location: Medway Maritime Hospital, Windmill Road, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 5NY.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist Fetal Medicine and obstetric care at MFMC and labour ward on‑call rota.
  • Develop and sign a formal job plan with the Clinical Director within three months of appointment; review annually.
  • Deliver 8.5 programmed direct clinical care activities per week and 1.5 programmed supporting professional activities (CME, audit, teaching, research).
  • Maintain waiting lists, manage admissions and ensure compliance with Medway NHS policy.
  • Participate in monthly departmental management meetings and support junior doctors’ timetabling.
  • Engage in quality assurance, audit and clinical governance; attend audit meetings.
  • Co‑ordinate annual and study leave with other consultants; adhere to leave policies.
Qualifications – Essential
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
  • MRCOG or equivalent.
  • Specialist training in Fetal Medicine or high‑risk pregnancy.
  • Specialist registration or CCT within 6 months of interview.
Knowledge, Academics & Research – Essential
  • Interest and experience in research in Fetal Medicine and high‑risk obstetrics.
Desirable
  • Experience managing hypertension and placental disorders clinics.
  • Research publications and presentations at academic meetings.
Experience – Essential
  • Teaching junior medical staff; involvement in undergraduate/postgraduate education.
  • Performing prenatal invasive procedures independently.
  • Independent management of labour ward and confidence in managing full range of obstetric complications.
