Job summary

Barts Health NHS Trust seeks a Consultant in Complex Spine Surgery to join the Royal London Hospital spinal service, focused on trauma with a Spinal Trauma Subspecialty Lead and dedicated clinics.

You will join a large team delivering complex trauma, paediatric deformity, elective spine surgery and tertiary referrals across North East London, within a busy Major Trauma Centre.

Qualifications

• Entry on GMC Specialist Register via CCT/CESR (CP) or equivalent within 6 months of interview.
• Full GMC Registration.
• Experience in Major Trauma Centre on call for spines.
• Complex Spine Fellowship training.
• Service development experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive adult and paediatric emergency spinal surgery, including instrumented trauma, MSCC and spinal infections.
• Lead and develop spinal trauma pathways and governance.
• Deliver elective spinal surgery across Barts Health sites.
• Supervise trainees, fellows and extended scope practitioners.
• Contribute to MDTs, governance, service development and research.

7 PA Post Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Consultant in Complex Spine Surgery to join our expanding multidisciplinary spinal service based at The Royal London Hospital. This is a substantive post with a particular focus on spinal trauma, including a Spinal Trauma Subspecialty Lead role and dedicated trauma clinics. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a consultant-led spinal trauma rota within one of the UK's busiest Major Trauma Centres. Main duties of the job You will join a large, collaborative team of orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal consultants delivering high-quality care across adult and paediatric populations. The service provides complex trauma, paediatric deformity, elective spinal surgery, and tertiary referrals across North East London.

• Provide comprehensive adult and paediatric emergency spinal surgery, including instrumented trauma, MSCC and spinal infections.
• Participate in the 1:9 24/7 Consultant-of-the-Week rota (Category A).
• Lead and develop spinal trauma pathways and governance.
• Deliver elective spinal surgery across Barts Health sites.
• Supervise trainees, fellows and extended scope practitioners.
• Contribute to MDTs, governance, service development and research activity, You will join a large, collaborative team of orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal consultants delivering highquality care across adult and paediatric populations. The service provides complex trauma, paediatric deformity, elective spinal surgery, and tertiary referrals across North East London. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview or CESR/Portfolio pathway, or alternative routes to specialist registration
• Full GMC Registration
• Take on additional professional responsibilities at regional/national levels

• Doctorate or Masters level research degree or equivalent
