Full Time, 10‑PA substantive post x 1 in Cardiothoracic Pathology and non‑gynaecological Cytology

Applications are invited for a replacement Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist post in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust. The appointment is to provide Histopathology reporting within cardiothoracic pathology and non‑gynaecological cytology for Barts Health and the other hospitals for which we undertake service provision. Barts Health is one of the UK’s leading healthcare providers and the largest Trust in the NHS. Together, our hospitals – Newham University Hospital, St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London and Whipps Cross – deliver high‑quality clinical care to the people of East London and beyond. We are implementing flexible working arrangements (both geographic and temporal) to deliver an efficient service in spite of lockdown restrictions and to maintain a healthy work‑life balance. Our digital capabilities are expanding with large‑volume slide scanning, remote frozen section macroscopy and reporting, and glass‑/paper‑free working.

Main duties of the job

The post is based in the state‑of‑the‑art Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Cellular pathology services are provided along specialist lines. The department provides a high‑quality service and the appointee will be a full and active member of the team. Applicants are required to hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and to be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • UK‑trained applicants must also hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award by interview date.
  • Non‑UK‑trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Experience
  • Thorough and broad training and experience in Histopathology, with experience in Cardiothoracic pathology and non‑gynae cytology.
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
  • Undertaken audit projects.
Desirable Experience
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit.
  • Attendance at management course.
Skills
  • Knowledge and experience of Cellular Pathology / Haematopathology.
  • Broad range of IT skills.
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based practice.
  • Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good attendance record and tidy personal appearance.
