This is an exciting opportunity to join the expanding anaesthetic department at Luton & Dunstable Hospital as a vascular anaesthetist. The vascular services will be relocated to the Luton site from Bedford with a new arterial service.
We are looking for a highly motivated consultant to work across specialist vascular lists and a variety of elective surgical specialties. The role requires a 1:20 on‑call commitment based at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, covering emergency surgery and obstetrics.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients undergoing anaesthesia.
- Deliver sessions in vascular theatres, vascular pre‑assessment clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Provide flexible coverage of various surgical specialties through job planning.
- Participate in on‑call rota for general emergencies, maternity theatre and paediatric emergencies.
- Collaborate constructively with colleagues in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine and Integrated Pain Management.
- Teach and train intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit and departmental and Trust matters.
- Lead and undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities with the Trust’s support.

- Medical Degree
- FRCA or equivalent
- ALS/ATLS or European equivalent
- SIA in vascular anaesthesia (or evidence of advanced training in vascular anaesthesia)
Desirable
- MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research
- Experience in preoperative assessment of general or vascular patients
- Accreditation in CPET interpretation or prior CPET experience

- Full GMC registration (licence to practice mandatory before employment)
