Job Overview

The Anaesthetic & Intensive Care Unit at Kent & Canterbury Hospital is recruiting a Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensivist. The role involves delivering anaesthesia sessions with on‑call commitments, covering the ITU and supporting a flexible job plan. The post is within a 10 PA framework with responsibilities across paediatrics, vascular, orthopaedic and urology lists.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver anaesthesia sessions and provide on‑call support.
  • Cover ITU coverage and other specialty lists as required.
  • Support appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training.
  • Participate in education, audit and research activities.
Person Specification

Qualifications and Training (Essential)

  • Medical degree
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • CCT/CESR Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date
  • Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS, or graduate of a UK Medical School

Qualifications and Training (Desirable)

  • Postgraduate qualification – clinical/education
  • Fellowship in airway/regional anaesthesia/Paediatric anaesthesia
  • FFICM
  • EDIC

Skills and Experience (Essential)

  • Wide knowledge and experience of caring for critically ill adults
  • Wide experience of anaesthesia
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Experience of teaching
  • Audit participation

Skills and Experience (Desirable)

  • Critical care and/or anaesthesia publications or presentations

Clinical Governance (Essential)

  • Experience of morbidity and mortality review
  • Evidence of audit of own practice
