A regional Health Trust in East Midlands seeks dual-CCT Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia to join an established team. You will manage a 20-bed ICU, handling over 1200 patients annually, with responsibilities including providing high-quality care and utilizing state-of-the-art equipment. The role includes opportunities for development and support, valuing a commitment to compassionate care. Competitive salary and permanent contract offered.
We are looking for dual-CCT Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia. Applicants will join an established, enthusiastic team of 12 Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine to develop an expanded Consultant workforce, which will allow us to deliver a number of service improvements.
We are a 20-bed mixed-dependency unit admitting 1200-1400 patients per year from a variety of specialties, including a regional gynaecological cancer service, maxillofacial surgery, urology and vascular surgery.
The unit is supported by a 16-bed Surgical Step-Down unit, staffed by the Department of Anaesthesia, which admits higher-risk patients during the perioperative period as well as a respiratory support unit and a medical high-dependency unit. We are also well-supported by the Critical Care Outreach Service and a dedicated team of Specialty Doctors and Associate Specialists. Our existing Consultant team have interests in echocardiography, ultrasound, medico-legal issues, and high-fidelity simulation. We are fortunate enough to have a simulation suite within the ICU.
These are full-time 10PA posts but any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. Additional sessions may be available on request. The unit is well supported by middle grade & trainee cover both in and out of hours.
As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together.
Our fundamental Values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.
The Adult ICU at the Royal Derby Hospitals is a new, customised PFI build with 20 beds rated Good in a recent CQC report. We admit over 1200 patients per year with a 60:40 split of medical to surgical admissions, 90 % of these being emergency admissions. We are a busy general ICU. The hospital provides a tertiary support service for hepatic and renal patients and in addition offers primary coronary angioplasty. We have a purpose built ICU with state‑of‑the‑art ultrasound, echo and imaging hardware and software. We are accredited for advanced training in Intensive Care medicine.
We introduced point‑of‑care echocardiography into our ICU 7 years ago and have developed a comprehensive echo service for our unit. We have two echo machines on the unit with TOE and TTE capability. In addition we have Echo PACS available on the unit to review all existing scans. We have a TTE and TOE high‑fidelity simulator that we use for staff training and to help deliver our nationally advertised ICU echocardiography course. ICU consultants will have office space on the unit and there is shared secretarial support.
The anaesthetic component of the job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Assistant Clinical Director. This will be tailored to the areas of interest and service need.
