Job description

Path Links invites applications for a full‑time substantive Consultant Cellular Pathologist based at Lincoln County Hospital. This role is part of a centralised cellular pathology department of seventeen consultants providing diagnostic services in Breast, Dermatology, Urology, Gynae, Gastrointestinal and Head & Neck specialties. You will have the opportunity to be appointed as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shared workload of histology and cytology as appropriate for specialist interests.
  • Specimen reporting and authorisation with clinical interpretation of reports.
  • Provision of advice regarding specimen type, collection and investigations.
  • Day‑to‑day supervision of diagnostic methods and examination of specimens.
  • Occasional requirement to work or attend meetings at another hospital site.
  • Provision of cover for planned leave of colleagues.
  • Supervision, training and management of doctors in training in the department.
  • Involvement in policy and SOP preparation.
  • Responsibility for quality assurance performance within the department, including participation in all relevant NEQAS programmes.
  • Responsibility for achieving and maintaining full accreditation via UKAS.
  • Business planning, including assessment and introduction of new methods, and forward planning for staff and equipment requirements.

Detailed job‑plans and subspecialist interests will be discussed and agreed between the existing consultants and the successful candidate on appointment.
