Position Overview

Come and work with our welcoming Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department at York Hospital. Opportunities have arisen for a Consultant Hepatologist to join our teams at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is keen to attract individuals looking to develop a portfolio career of their choosing, with flexible job plans to accommodate varied skill sets and working patterns. The job has no mandatory commitments to the General Medicine on-call service.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Deliver hepatology outpatient clinics, engage with the hepatology MDT and manage elective endoscopy.
  • Provide on‑call commitment including inpatient management of general Gastroenterology patients and out‑of‑hours GI bleed cover, with no mandatory General Medicine on‑call.
  • Participate in the Trust’s MDT service supported by clinical nurse specialists and medical colleagues; strong links with Leeds Liver Transplantation Service.
  • Utilise the 7‑room endoscopy unit, supporting development of advanced and subspecialist endoscopic modalities such as EUS.
  • Engage in clinical research and teaching undergraduate students as part of Hull and York Medical School.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Higher medical qualification (MRCP or equivalent) and be on the GMC Specialist Register for G(I)M and Gastroenterology or be within twelve months of obtaining the CCT at the time of interview.
  • High standard clinical skills and expertise covering Hepatology with an option to cover General Internal Medicine.
  • Familiarity with issues of service organisation and development is particularly advantageous.
