Job summary

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a substantive Consultant Haematologist in a thriving regional haematology service. The post offers the chance to contribute to outpatient clinics, day-case and inpatient haemato-oncology care, and to provide clinical leadership within a supportive team of five consultants.

We seek a doctor with GMC registration, MRCP and FRCPath or equivalent, with a special interest in malignant or classical haematology.

Qualifications

• GMC registration with licence to practice (or eligible within 6 months).
• MRCP or equivalent professional qualification.
• FRCPath qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Join senior medical team in running outpatient clinics.

Consultant Haematologist

We are looking for the equivalent of 2 full-time consultants (20 PAs) following the recent retirement of one colleague and expansion of the team to help with current and future service provision. This could either be as a 10 PA post or part-time posts and discussions around this would be encouraged prior to interview. We are looking for general haematologists with a current special interest or willingness to develop a special interest in either malignant or classical/medical haematology. There are currently five haematologists, in addition to the above, providing an on-call service covering a population of around 300,000. The successful applicant will join our team of 5 consultants:

• Dr Heather Eve- Lead for myeloma
• Dr Barry Jackson- Clinical lead and lead for haemophilia, transfusion and MPN
• Dr Tom Skinner- MDT and clinical governance lead
• Dr Deborah Turner- Lead for lymphoma
• Dr Rui Zhao- Lead for acute leukaemia and transplantation

You will be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making.

• Offer support and training to all non-consultant grade doctors within the unit, including clinical and educational supervision
• Promote inter-disciplinary working in the department and across the hospital.

• Participate in clinical audit program, including both departmental and multidisciplinary
• audit.
• Contribute to research and innovative practice within haematology.

Person Specification

Qualifications and training

• oFull registration with the GMC with licence to practice (or to be eligible for registration within six months of interview.)
• oMRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent)

• oAbility to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
