Job description
Consultant Haematologist

We invite applications for a full‑time Consultant Haematologist to join an established team of 9 consultants providing diagnostic and clinical haematology services and managing inpatients to BCSH Level 3.

About the team

The post is a general Haematology post covering all district general Haematology practice with an expectation of sub‑specialist interest in lymphoma, haemostasis/thrombosis and other areas. The team also supports a JACIE accredited transplant service and is involved in active cancer clinical trials research.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide specialist Haematology services to inpatients and outpatients.
  • Diagnose and treat haematological disorders and support clinical decision‑making for junior medical and nursing staff.
  • Provide on‑call support and remain contactable during out‑of‑hours service.
  • Share responsibility for the diagnostic laboratory services, including interpretation of tests and liaison with hospital clinicians and primary care.
  • Deliver undergraduate teaching, tutorials and pathology teaching to 4th‑year medical students.
  • Assist in training of technical and scientific staff and develop postgraduate training for junior doctors.
  • Act as an educational supervisor for junior and middle‑grade medical staff, managing appraisal and development planning.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date clinical knowledge through CME/CPD in line with RCPath guidance.
  • Participate in clinical audit and develop clinical audits in line with Directorate and Corporate Clinical Governance programmes.
  • Engage in clinical research, particularly recruitment to local clinical trials throughout the portfolio.
Working pattern

10 PAs per week, including on‑call commitments shared with other consultant colleagues (1:8 rota). Whole‑time, part‑time or job‑share applicants are welcomed. Flexible working arrangements may be considered.

Consultants receive a structured mentoring scheme. The department supports continuing professional development and encourages participation in the Trust’s research, teaching and training programmes.
