Job description
Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist- Waltham Forest_Loxford Ward

The Trust is seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to work in the Forensic Service. The post is available due to a consultant psychiatrist leaving the Trust.

This is a whole time 10 PA appointment. The intention is for the postholder to spend approximately 8PAs working on Loxford Ward and 2PAs in Waltham Forest. Those interested in part‑time or flexible working should though make contact to discuss possible arrangements.

The post holder will join four existing consultants who work in the rest of the Low Secure service. The East London area served by the Trust is one of the most culturally diverse and deprived areas in England and therefore provides significant challenges for the provision of health services. There are high levels of mental health problems, substance misuse, and offending behaviour in the local population.

Main duties of the job

The Trust is seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to work at Wolfson House to provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team on Loxford Ward, and provide community supervision for a small number of patients discharged from the inpatient forensic service.

Clinical Duties of the Post Holder

  • he post-holder will hold consultant responsibility for approximately 10 patients under the care of the Waltham Forest Community Forensic Team and for the inpatients on LoxfordWard.
  • Will provide clinical leadership to the Waltham Forest Community Forensic Team and to Loxford Ward

Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of this
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Transport
  • Ability to travel within East London and between clinical sites

  • Knowledge and understanding of forensic psychiatry
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
