Job description
About the Department

The Department of ENT Surgery is primarily based at Castle Hill Hospital and currently comprises seven substantive consultants, three locum consultants and five specialist registrars and a Head & Neck Fellow.

At Castle Hill Hospital, the department provides a dedicated outpatient service, has a joint inpatient ward with Breast & Plastic Surgery, and day surgery in the recently built Day Surgery Centre. In addition, the service provides Paediatric and day surgery sessions at the Hull Royal Infirmary as well as managing emergencies on the acute site.

The Consultants support the team in the delivery of the routine ENT surgery workload and share duties with the current team of consultants for the provision of ENT surgical services for the local population. The department offers a full Head and Neck and Thyroid cancer service, delivered by two specialist Head and Neck surgeons and a two specialist Thyroid surgeon within the Trust, offering both Transoral Robotic and Transoral Endoscopic surgery. The service is supported by the full range of allied surgical specialties including Reconstructive Plastic surgeons, Maxillofacial surgeons, and Neurosurgical and Cardiothoracic surgeons. In addition, the multi‑disciplinary team is supported by colleagues from North Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The MDTs provide specialist cancer care for the Northeast Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Alliance which covers a population of approximately 1.1 million.

Responsibilities
  • To collaborate and work to maintain ENT services in line with strategic requirements.
  • To provide, with the other members of the ENT Consultant body, routine and emergency ENT services to the Trust, operating a system of mutual out‑of‑hours cover, and cover for annual, study and professional leave.
  • To provide elective delivery within the general pool of ENT work and also appropriate sub‑speciality surgical ENT care in accordance with the priorities of the Trust.
  • To participate, where appropriate, in the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, nurses, paramedics and general practitioners and other appropriate NHS colleagues.
