An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and dedicated Consultant to join our dynamic Diabetes and Endocrine team at Basildon Hospital! We're seeking an enthusiastic clinician with a strong interest in specialist diabetic foot care, antenatal diabetes, and a commitment to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Main duties of the job

You will play an active role in delivering and developing a broad range of sub‑specialty outpatient diabetes clinics, including:

  • Diabetic foot
  • Insulin Pump / Hybrid Closed‑Loop Clinics
  • Antenatal Diabetes Clinics
  • Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot‑care Clinics
  • Complex Diabetes Clinics
  • General Endocrine Clinics

You will also be involved in rotational ward cover and will help manage inpatient care on our 27‑bed Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine ward, as well as supporting diabetes outliers and our inpatient diabetes team. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Weekly schedule of approximately 5 outpatient clinics
  • Involvement in antenatal and foot‑care ward rounds
  • Providing electronic triage, Advice & Guidance, and support across specialties
  • Active participation in our established multidisciplinary meetings and collaborative working across departments

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Full MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification.
  • A higher degree in medicine (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)
Clinical experience
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT
  • Evidence of presentations or papers in Diabetes and Endocrinology and/or General /Acute Medicine
Communication
  • Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication, and capacity to adapt language to the situation, as appropriate.
  • Evidence of involvement in management.
