Job summary

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals seeks a replacement post primarily based at Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children, St Helier. You will deliver community paediatric services for London Boroughs of Merton and Sutton, with opportunities to develop a clinical interest area and contribute to teaching and governance across the Trust.

The role includes a named Doctor role for looked after children, neurodevelopmental clinics, and involvement in safeguarding and multi-disciplinary assessment.

Job description

This post is a replacement post and will be mainly based at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children which is on the St. Helier site, however in keeping with Trust principles cross site working is encouraged and may be required. The post holder will help deliver Community Paediatric services for the London Boroughs of Merton and Sutton. We are keen to support a suitable candidate to develop an area of interest which supplements the work of the department. While this post does require the candidate to providea namedrole, we would support colleagues who may wish to develop into these roles in the future. There are no on-call commitments unless desired. We currently offer our patients a wide range of services including diagnosis and management of all types of Developmental Problems e.g. Global Developmental Delay and Autism assessment in the under 5s, Motor Coordination Disorder, Neurodevelopmental disorders and Neuro-disability, Down syndrome and CLA clinics. The post includes:

• Named Doctor role for Children Looked After.
• Medical Adviser role for Adoption and Fostering.
• Neurodevelopmental clinics, including assessment of social communication difficulties and autism spectrum disorder in children under five years.
• Management of children with complex neurodevelopmental and neurodisability needs affecting education and daily living.
• Participation in the EHCP process in accordance with departmental guidance.
• Health assessments for Children Looked After.
• Triage of referrals as required.
• Contribution to the safeguarding consultant rota.

Routine educational activities include weekly junior doctor teaching programme in addition to Quality meetings, Child Protection Peer review and Mortality & Morbidity meetings run as part of the monthly programme. There will be opportunities to build and further teaching and training ambitions, as we have middle grade trainees within the department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape this development. Innovative ideas will be welcome to support the integration of services for children in the community and in the acute services where they have overlapping needs.

The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.

1. To, at all times, comply withthe GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time.
2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.
4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
6. To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
7. To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and out patients under your care. Management & Governance
8. To maintain personal and professional development. The post holder will be expected to register with their respective Royal College for the purpose of CME/CPD and to fulfil the requirements of that registration.
9. To provide advice, as required to the Executive and Trust Board, General Practitioners and other interested parties, on the provision of planning of clinical services locally, regionally and nationally in keeping with confidentiality agreements relating to Trust business.
10. To co-operate in the present framework agreement of management arrangements.
11. To fully participate in Clinical Governance arrangements across the Trust including participation in clinical audit, research (where appropriate), pursuing an agreed agenda with colleagues and the Trust Board and fully co-operating in implementing the results in order to achieve best practice.
12. To participate, on at least an annual basis in appraisal and job planning reviews.
13. To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.
14. To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are observed.
15. To participate in the delivery of educational activities and training of juniors, and contribute to supervision ensuring a completed educational portfolio in line with GMC recommendations.
