Job description

Interviews are scheduled to take place on the 3rd December 2025.

Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) invites applications for a replacement consultant cellular pathologist to join our forward-thinking and friendly team-based environment at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW).

CWPS is a large pathology network in the Midlands, providing pathology services for UHCW, George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking a pathologist with sub-specialist interests in breast and gynaecological pathology, but would also consider dermatopathology, urology, haematolymphoid, gastrointestinal pathology or thoracic pathology.

Participation in the autopsy service is welcomed but not essential.

Participation in research and teaching (at undergraduate and postgraduate level) is encouraged and supported by protected sessions. University of Warwick’s Clinical Sciences Research Institute located on the UHCW site provides additional laboratory research facilities.

The department has full UKAS accreditation, is fully sub-specialised and benefits from extensive BMS led cut-up. CWPS is a global leader in digital pathology having adopted this technology and led its implementation into diagnostic practice. This innovative development offers unrivalled flexibility of workflow, including home working for up to three days a week, benefiting both pathologists and clinical services. The UHCW Centre of Excellence for Digital Pathology has been established, in partnership with the University of Warwick Computer Science Department, and is aimed at developing and evaluating digital pathology algorithms of diagnostic and prognostic use. UHCW is the teaching hospital for the University of Warwick Medical School and the department is engaged in teaching pathology to medical students. CWPS is one of the largest training centres for the West Midlands Cellular Pathology Training Scheme and is also part of the West Midlands ST1 Training School.

In addition to purpose-designed surgical, cytology and immunocytochemical laboratories, the department has a multi-disciplinary molecular diagnostic facility, providing single multiplexed PCR based analyses of the commonly mutated solid tumour genes.
