Qualifications

  • Completion of GMC specialist registration within 6 months of interview.
  • Proven experience in histopathology and cellular pathology.

Responsibilities

  • Report the Health Board’s histopathology backlog with emphasis on skin reporting.
  • Provide clinical Cellular Pathology services to a large catchment population.
  • Contribute to the All-Wales Digital Pathology Programme using AI.

Job description
Job Overview

We are an NHS award‑winning department playing a leading role in the modernisation of pathology services in SE Wales in line with the Health Board's Clinical Futures strategy and the Welsh Government "Future Delivery of Pathology Services in Wales" document. We provide all services in house with no outsourcing to external providers. We are heavily involved in the design and creation of the All-Wales Digital Pathology Programme, utilise AI algorithms for the diagnosis of several specimen types and hope to implement its use in the reporting of HER2 and associated ISH. The successful candidate will benefit from a new office, bespoke new microscope, IT packages including laptop, digital equipment and secretarial support. We have a fully supportive laboratory providing a wide range of immunos and are willing to look into expanding the repertoire and technologies and clinical needs change.

Responsibilities
  • Play an important role in reporting the Health Board’s current histopathology backlog, primarily skin reporting with ability to report other specialties.
  • Provide clinical and laboratory Cellular Pathology service to a catchment population of 600,000.
  • Contribute to the design and creation of the All-Wales Digital Pathology Programme using AI algorithms for diagnosis and implementation in reporting of HER2 and associated ISH.
Qualifications
  • Full GMC licence to practice and current UK professional registration.
  • GMC specialist registration (via CCT/CESR/European Community Rights) or completion of specialist registration within 6 months of interview.
  • Full FRCPath qualification.
  • Experience in histopathology and cellular pathology with evidence of working in a UKAS ISO15189 accredited laboratory.
Desirable
  • Experience with digital pathology and AI diagnostics.
  • Experience with quality governance and clinical governance.
  • Experience teaching and training junior staff.
