Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a consultant radiologist to cover diagnostic cardiothoracic imaging across South Essex, including acute hospitals and Community Diagnostic Centres, with reporting, on-call and emergency imaging responsibilities.

Cardiac MRI expertise is sought, or willingness to gain accreditation, within a service of over 500 staff; entry to GMC Specialist Register or eligibility within six months of CCT at interview; teaching junior doctors, undergraduates

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
• GMC Specialist Register entry or eligible within six months of CCT at interview.
• Formal subspecialty training and cardiothoracic imaging fellowship with cardiac MRI.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a high-quality diagnostic radiology service.
• Develop general and specialist imaging services with diagnostic support throughout the week.
• Work flexibly to manage emergencies and inpatients promptly.
• Take an appropriate share of the diagnostic on-call rota.
• Attend multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinical meetings.
• Maintain standards through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal.
• Support junior doctor training to College curricula, including tutorials, teaching, mentoring and assessment.
• Teach undergraduates and advanced practitioner radiographers.
• Keep personal professional development in line with Royal College of Radiologists and GMC requirements.
• Introduce new techniques only after training, with directorate approval, evaluation and an audit trail, outside ethically approved research.

A consultant post in the Radiology Service at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, covering diagnostic cardiothoracic imaging for South Essex in acute hospitals and Community Diagnostic Centres. The work covers reporting, on-call and emergency imaging, plus teaching junior doctors, undergraduates and advanced practitioner radiographers. Experience

• Expertise in performing and reporting cardiac MRI and CT
• Experience in thoracic diagnostic CT
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care, offering expert opinion on cardiothoracic imaging problems
• Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty

Nice to have

• Level 3 accreditation or certification in cardiac MRI and cardiac CT
• Expertise in CT-guided thoracic intervention
• Experience of simple interventional procedures (biopsy and drainage)
