CLINICAL DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THIS POST

In association with all Consultant Anaesthetists, the successful candidate will carry shared responsibility for the organisation and operation of all aspects of clinical and supporting work of the anaesthetic department.

The post is offered, based on 10 programmed activities (PA) as below:

  • Direct Clinical Care as part of the non-resident Anaesthetic Consultant on call.

Direct clinical care includes all clinical and associated direct activity, e.g. pre- and post-operative care and communication. On call Duties and scheduled emergency work at weekends.

The successful candidate will share responsibility for continuing clinical cover with consultant colleagues. Remuneration is by salary supplement (medium frequency, category A) with Programmed Activities allocated in the job plan to reflect the number of participating Consultants and the average hours of work including both predictable and unpredictable duties is subject to periodic review. When on call, the Duty Consultant will take an active role in the direction of the emergency team. Attendance on-site is required at times of peak activity: evenings and weekend daytime, it expected that an onsite handover will take place from the night team at 8.00am followed by a Duty Consultant morning ward round at 8.30am on the ICU at weekends.
