A healthcare provider in England is seeking an experienced Consultant Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatrist to lead an inpatient service focused on adolescent mental health. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic Consultant to join our organisation in a substantive position as a Consultant Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatrist. This post is one of two Consultant Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry posts for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will provide clinical leadership for the Hope Unit – Adolescent in-patient service with a focus on assessment / short stay treatments, utilising an acute care pathway (6-8 week admissions).

First response On Call cover to all mental health specialties including CAMHS through Borough Psychiatric CT on call. Middle Grade CAMHS Psychiatric on call cover (ST4–ST6) at a Trust-wide level, shared with the Greater Manchester ST rota. The Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists provide a 3rd On Call Out of Hours service for emergencies regarding young people up to 16th birthday on a 1 in 17 Trust-wide rota. The successful applicant will join either the Borough Adult Consultant Psychiatry on call rota (frequency 1 in 9) or the Trust Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatry on call rota depending on sub-speciality. Additional remuneration will be provided for On Call availability.
The post holder will participate in training, teaching and supervision as appropriate, including teaching junior medical staff and other health and social care professionals. Opportunities exist for MRCPsych teaching and for medical student teaching via links with the University of Manchester. The post holder may supervise the Specialty Doctor attached to the Hope Unit.
The post holder is expected to participate in clinical audit and clinical governance activities; all clinical staff will contribute to the Trust’s governance arrangements and monitor practice through this process. All Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists in Pennine Care meet bi-monthly; the post holder will be invited to join this forum.
The Trust has an active Research Unit; the post holder may participate in research activities in consultation with the CAMHS Clinical Director. CPD is required, with support from the Trust for study leave and funding; CPD requirements align with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Study leave entitlement is 10 days per year. Mentorship from a consultant is available via the Regional Consultant’s Group.
Job planning will be agreed under the new Consultant Contract with the CAMHS Clinical Director; a specimen plan is provided for full-time employment of 10 PA’s. Part-time arrangement available with proportional PA distribution. Annual job plan review and appraisal will be undertaken in line with contract terms and revalidation requirements.
Facilities supporting the post include a designated office on the Hope Unit, a Trust-provided laptop, access to diagnostic/recording equipment, and administrative support via a medical secretary. Library facilities are available at the Post-Graduate Medical Centre and Prestwich Hospital library services. Travel support is provided for non-drivers.
The post-holder is entitled to 32 days annual leave per year, with enhancements per Consultant terms. Mutual leave coordination with Hope and Horizon Unit peers; sickness and special leave per Trust HR policies.
