Job summary

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Consultant to join the Acute Medicine team within the Division of Integrated Medicine and Emergency Care. The role focuses on daily reviews of the medical take, patient care, and leadership across the department.

You will supervise junior medical staff, participate in governance, audits, and teaching, and help drive timely patient flow and discharge in line with national and local targets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the knowledge and skills essential for fulfilling the job plan.
• Responsible for the timely review of all medical patients attending the services.
• Facilitate rapid triage, assessment and discharge for ambulatory patients and coordinate clinic appointments.
• Daily ward rounds and identifying morning discharges to ensure safe patient discharge.
• Administrative duties within the department.
• Provide high quality care including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff.
• Ensure supervision of junior staff including break supervision and adherence to EWTD.
• Undertake re-validation per GMC and participate in multi-source feedback and reflective practice.
• Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and participate in Clinical Governance.
• Liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address issues.
• Participate in audits and quality assurance processes.
• Manage the department to maintain efficient and timely patient flow with reference to local/national standards.
• Contribute towards teaching of medical trainees and students.

Job description

An exciting opportunity to join the Acute Medicine team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals within the Division of Integrated Medicine and Emergency Care.

The Consultant team oversees and leads in the daily reviews of the medical take through these areas supporting and encouraging patient care being provided in the right place, first time ensuring national and local targets are recognised and achieved.

The service is staffed by a large team of Consultants, Registrars, junior doctors, ACP’s and Physician Associates. The medical on call service is also coordinated through here that is staffed by a mixture of trainees and substantive colleagues. Many students also have their placements in the service making us a busy, fast-paced learning environment.

Duties And Responsibilities As a Consultant

• Maintain the knowledge and skills essential for fulfilling the job plan.
• Responsible for the timely review of all medical patients attending the services.
• Responsible to facilitate a rapid triage, assessment and discharge for the ambulatory patients and coordinate a clinic appointment if required.
• Daily ward rounds and identifying morning discharges ensuring the patient is safely discharged from the department.
• Administrative duties within the department.
• Provide high quality care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff..
• To ensure adequate supervision of junior staff including break supervision and adherence to European Working Time Directive
• Undertake re-validation as per the General Medical Council and will be required to undergo multi-source feedback and participate in reflective practice.
• Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
• Attend Clinical Governance and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement.
• Liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside of the department to address issues arising that affecting the service.
• Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
• Management of the department to maintain efficient and timely patient flow with specific reference to both local and national standards.
• Contribute towards the teaching of medical trainees and students in the department
