Work‑life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for us. We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part‑time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

About The Opportunity

Amentum provides client‑oriented solutions across our environment, energy, and defence businesses. With a strong order book and a diverse, exciting portfolio of projects across the UK and internationally, we need to expand our team of environmental specialists across multiple disciplines required to deliver a project lifecycle—from new build and operations through to decommissioning and site end use. We offer opportunities for significant career advancement, attractive remuneration, and flexible working, as well as leadership and client relationship role development.

We are seeking a desk‑ and site‑based Acoustic Consultant to support project operations across the wider Amentum business. We welcome candidates with experience in noise modelling to support planning applications and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs). In addition, a regulatory background in managing noise cases related to statutory nuisance would be highly regarded. This role spans our environment, energy, and defence portfolios, providing exposure to a wide array of challenging and rewarding projects.

This role can be based in Harwell, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.

Key Responsibilities
  • Noise & Vibration Measurements: Undertake site‑based noise and vibration measurements for environmental noise monitoring, construction, transport, and building acoustics.
  • Acoustic Reports & Tools: Develop and review desk‑based acoustic reports using software such as CadnaA, SoundPLAN, and Odeon. Assist in producing high‑quality documents detailing acoustic assessments suitable for clients and regulators.
  • Digital Portfolio Development: Contribute to building a digital portfolio for acoustics, including the creation of both online and in‑person materials to communicate project goals and findings.
  • Best Available Techniques: Develop acoustics‑focused best available techniques that integrate with wider environmental assessments, permitting processes, and Development Consent Orders (DCOs).
  • Project Delivery: Manage and deliver various permitting and planning applications, as well as permit variations. Conduct site visits, install monitoring equipment, and liaise with client project managers to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Laboratory & Noise Room Facility: Support the development of Amentum’s acoustics laboratory and noise room facility, helping to enhance our in‑house capabilities.
Here’s What You’ll Need
  • Acoustics Experience: At least one year of experience in preparing environmental impact acoustics assessments and supporting the development of environmental statements.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in acoustics, environmental science, applied sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands‑on experience with CadnaA, SoundPLAN, and Odeon for modelling and assessment.
  • Additional Knowledge: Familiarity with the planning application process is advantageous. Interest in computational modelling ( Python coding), health system effects of noise in marine ecosystems, and / or sound recording and signal processing is a plus.
  • Communication & Problem‑Solving: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to tackle technical challenges in a collaborative environment.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel on business as required, including potential visits to overseas sites.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early‑career professional to develop expertise in acoustics while working on impactful projects across high‑hazard industries. If you’re passionate about environmental noise assessment, modelling, and innovative solutions, we invite you to join our expanding team.
