Details of this position

This position is for a full time Construction Technician in prison education.

We're looking for someone to support the delivery of vocational training in trades such as plastering, painting and decorating, tiling, and dry lining within a prison workshop setting.

Working closely with the Multi-Skills Trainer, you'll help create a safe, well-equipped, and motivating learning environment where learners can develop valuable trade skills. You'll also play a key role in maintaining compliance with prison safety and security procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain workshop spaces, ensuring all tools, materials, and equipment are available and in good condition.
  • Support practical activities and demonstrations in line with City & Guilds Level 2 standards.
  • Manage and monitor tool inventories, maintaining strict safety and security standards.
  • Provide guidance and encouragement to learners during hands-on training sessions.
  • Promote a positive, safe, and restorative workshop culture that supports skill development and engagement.
  • Accurately maintain records of attendance, tool usage, and learner progress.

Work schedule: Full time 38.5 hours per week

Salary scale: Up to 28,000 per annum

Annual leave: 30 days per annum

To be considered, suitable candidates will need to meet the following criteria
  • Experience in construction trades (plastering, painting, tiling, dry lining) at Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Practical knowledge of health and safety and workshop tool management.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to support learners with diverse needs.An understanding of vocational education or a willingness to develop in this area.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and workshop prep.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping others succeed.

Suitable candidates will need to be enthusiastic, resilient and have a humanistic approach.
