Job summary

EDF is seeking an MEH Area Planner to support the Integrated Planning team for the HPC project at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C. You will coordinate design, engineering, procurement, and construction planning across MEH scope with a focus on delivering reliable, logic-linked schedules and risk-informed decisions.

Based in the UK, you will work within a matrix organisation, collaborating with multiple stakeholders to drive baseline scheduling, data quality, and governance in a highly regulated,

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable ability to deliver accurate and concise project insights to drive evidence-based decision making, utilising commercial and technical information, to influence project decisions and lead the management of area planning.
  • Critical understanding of how the impact of changes/decisions may impact the risk profile of the project and Planning delivery.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effectively communicates complex issues and concepts (unique insights) in simple ways, to both technical and non-technical senior audiences.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues within and across organisational boundaries to achieve mutually successful outcomes.
  • Control / Clear Understanding of the HPC PMO Digital Planning Platforms and functionality
  • Detailed understanding of scheduling methodologies and techniques.
  • Technical and practical comprehension of EPC methods and techniques in a UK context.
  • Ability to produce accurate, complete and fully logic-linked construction plans.
  • Understanding of other Disciplines of Project Controls (particularly Estimating, Cost and Risk) including management techniques and associated software.
  • Understanding of earned value analysis.
  • Understanding of various contract types, in particular the NEC suite and FIDIC.
  • Working knowledge of schedule risk analysis techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Drive an Integrated Planning framework, integrated with Reporting and Interdependencies focused on alignment of top down/bottom-up reporting from strategic levels, through Level 1 to Level 5.
  • Develop and maintain the schedule baseline integrated work schedule (IWS) with fully logic-linked work plans aligned to the Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and utilising effective techniques.
  • Support the Area management organisation to ensure significant risks/opportunities associated with the MEH scope are adequately assessed and informed.
  • Enable robust review and challenge of delivery & schedule level reporting that impacts overall Project level strategic delivery.
  • Produce timely updates of area Planning and Schedule reporting to key stakeholders, to a defined reporting cycle.
  • Drive and challenge strategies for Baseline Schedule project delivery sequence.
  • Continuously develop the Planning team approach by capturing and sharing operational experience and learning.
  • Analyse information to identify key risks and make evidence-based decisions to drive Planning strategy.
  • Collaborate across boundaries to achieve mutually successful outcomes consistent with HPC values.
  • Integrate the MEH scope within the HPC schedule and planning data.
  • Ensure project documents are adequately protected in line with EDF policies.

Job Purpose / Overview

EDF are leading the UK's Nuclear New Build Programme through the construction of Nuclear Power Stations at Hinkley Point 'C' in Somerset and Sizewell 'C' in Suffolk.


The MEH area planner a key role within the Integrated Planning team which encompasses Design, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Logistics, Construction & Commissioning for the Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Instrumentation & Controls Scope of Work for HPC.


The Planning Teams work within a matrix organisation supporting all the involved areas, programmes & contracts of Works across Unit 1 & Unit 2 Nuclear Island (NI), Conventional Island & Balance of Plant and the Offshore Marine Scope (CI/BOP)


The MEH Area Planner is accountable to the Area Lead Planner for MEH planning throughout the project lifecycle, it's Productivity, the quality of its outputs their accuracy and value, the implementation of the broader HPC Planning Strategy, the provision of a bespoke-benchmark Planning Environment (Digitally enabled) and the management & control of its associated Supply Chain interfaces (contracts).


The Planning team's deliverables will always be delivered whilst eschewing & leading by example in respect of the consistent application of our long-established HPC 'Values' and our continuous endeavour to 'Continuously-Improve'

Overall
  • Drive an Integrated Planning framework, integrated with Reporting and Interdependencies focused on alignment of top down/bottom-up reporting from strategic levels, through Level 1 to Level 5.
  • Develop and maintain the schedule baseline integrated work schedule (IWS) with fully logic-linked work plans aligned to the Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and utilising effective techniques.
  • Supporting the Area management organisation to ensure that significant risks/opportunities associated with the MEH scope of works are adequately assessed based on evidence and balanced judgement to underpin regular, timely and accurate information.
  • Enable robust review, challenge of delivery & schedule level reporting that impacts overall Project level strategic delivery.
  • For the timely production and focussed updates of area Planning and Schedule reporting to key stakeholders, to a defined reporting cycle
  • Driving and challenging strategies for Baseline Schedule project delivery sequence
  • Continuous development of the Planning team approach by capturing and sharing operational experience and learning.
  • Analysing and assimilating information to identify key risks and make evidence-based decisions to drive the Planning strategy using a pragmatic and systematic approach.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues within and across organisational boundaries to achieve mutually successful outcomes in keeping with the HPC project values of "Humility, Positivity, Respect, Solidarity and Clarity" and culture of "Trust, Transparency and Teamwork"
  • Accountable for the application of the Trend & Change process within the schedule, including analysis at Project level, generating performance indicators, and providing feedback on areas of risk and opportunities.
  • Integration of the MEH scope of works within the HPC schedule and associated planning data
  • Accountable for ensuring the project scheduling standards and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Ensure all Project documents, in particular Sensitive Nuclear Information, are correctly protectively marked, and protected in accordance with EDF policies and procedures.
Location(s): The role is based at any HPC required location.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of a degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction, Quantity Surveying or other related field;
  • Demonstratable experience working within a Planning team for mechanical, electrical & HVAC works in a complex, highly regulated industry (ideally nuclear or energy) working in a role, which requires active integration management with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience of practical application of Integrated Planning frameworks and methodologies, and how they are applied in the strategic and operational management of a major infrastructure project to deliver positive business outcomes.
  • Expert in Planning and Project Controls technology solutions with experience of managing the implementation and effective delivery of complex projects using these software solutions.
  • Proven experience of planning Mechanical, Electrical & HVAC works within highly regulated industries and complex projects.
