Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Construction Assurance Manager to join the North West region, covering Warrington, Preston, Penrith or Manchester offices. You will ensure schemes meet time, cost, quality and safety targets and manage on-site issues with multiple stakeholders.

You will drive buildability reviews, coordinate the delivery programme with partners, and ensure adherence to HSE, CDM, DMRB and MCHW standards while maintaining strong customer focus across dispersed teams.

Qualifications

  • Degree in civil/structural engineering or equivalent highways/structures experience.
  • Knowledge of site-based health, safety, environmental and quality practices (DMRB, MCHW, CDM).
  • IOSH or SMSTS accreditation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure planned works are completed to agreed standards and escalate concerns to the Construction Manager.
  • Ensure all works comply with CDM regulations, HSE legislation, DMRB and MCHW.
  • Provide regular feedback on scheme progress, risks, and design issues; act as escalation point for on-site issues.
  • Coordinate delivery programme with key supply chain partners and carry out buildability reviews.
  • Maintain liaison with Project Managers and Commercial & Procurement teams on Early Warnings and Compensation Events.

About the job.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Construction Assurance Manger to join our team in North West region. The Construction Assurance Manager will play a key role in the delivery of National Highways Capital Investment Schemes by representing the companies interests on civil engineering construction and maintenance sites. Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, you will actively ensure construction schemes are delivered in line with time, cost, quality and safety standards, and customer experience is not adversely impacted. This role is based from our Warrington, Preston, Penrith or Manchester office.

You will also be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Assuring the completion of planned works to agreed standards and escalate any concerns to the Construction Manager, in line with agreed governance requirements.
  • Ensuring that all works are constructed in line with: CDM regulations, HSE Legislation, Chapter 8 requirements, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW).
  • Ensuring Project Managers receive regular and timely feedback on scheme construction progress, risks, early warnings, design related issues, and act as the initial point of escalation for any on-site issues that need to be resolved.
  • Acting as liaison between all key supply chain partners and co-ordinate the delivery programme, ensuring buildability reviews are carried out on all projects.
  • Maintaining good liaison with Project Managers and Commercial & Procurement colleagues, providing relevant and timely information on Early Warnings and Compensation Events
About you.
  • Educated to degree level in relevant engineering discipline (desirable; civil engineering degree preferred) OR proven highways/structures maintenance/construction experience. Experience of working on high-speed Trunk Road/Motorway Networks is desirable
  • Knowledge of site-based processes, relevant legislation, practices and policies for health & safety, environmental and quality management, including good understanding of the DMRB, MCHW, Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual and CDM Regulations.
  • Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including stakeholder management, with a strong customer focus and managing geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experienced in using the NEC 4 ECC form of contract.
