Job summary

The British Museum is seeking a Conservator: Storage to provide preventive conservation support across its stores, including Reading and London sites. You will manage risks to the collection in storage and ensure preservation needs guide projects within the Masterplan.

You will bring extensive heritage-sector experience, a degree-level conservation qualification (or equivalent) and progress toward PACR accreditation, with strong environmental monitoring and reporting skills.

Qualifications

• Post-qualification experience in the heritage sector.
• Recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level or equivalent; eligible for or working towards PACR accreditation.
• Experience in preventive conservation for storage and movement projects.
• Experience assessing risks to collections and implementing monitoring, analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Protect the collection by identifying and managing preventive conservation risks across stores.
• Shape practical conservation solutions for diverse materials and environments.
• Monitor environmental data and interpret findings to identify risks and actions.
• Support collection moves and storage projects from planning through delivery.
• Collaborate across the Museum to embed preventive conservation in projects.
