Job summary

Great Western Railway (GWR) invites applications for a Conductor role at Redhill. You’ll deliver high-quality customer service while ensuring safe train operations and a smooth journey for passengers across the network.

Working on a 35-hour week with shifts including early starts, late finishes, weekends and bank holidays, you will be the face of GWR onboard and contribute to a welcoming journey for customers. A strong team spirit and calm, proactive approach are essential to success.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Positive, proactive and professional approach.
• Flexible to work a range of shifts, including early mornings, late finishes, weekends and bank holidays.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and work well in a team.
• Front-line customer service experience is desirable.
• Must be 18 or over to apply; safety-critical role.
• Must live within 60-minute travel time of the depot.
• Must complete a medical assessment including hearing, vision and colour vision tests.
• Full training will be provided to become a GWR Conductor.

Responsibilities

• Be the face of GWR, providing friendly, helpful and professional customer service to our passengers.
• Take responsibility for the safe operation of the train, working closely with the Driver and station colleagues.
• Check and sell tickets while helping to maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment on board.
• Support customers with queries and resolve situations calmly, confidently and professionally.
• Keep passengers informed and assist when needed throughout their journey.

Salary: £27,318 during training, rising to £39,905 once qualified

Contract: Permanent - Full Time

As well as electrifying our main routes, and upgrading key stations, we have carried out the biggest upgrade of trains in the country. The Procurement team have an essential role to play in the success of GWR through our strategic sourcing and our approach to supplier management.

About the job:

As a Conductor, you’ll play an important role in making sure our passengers have a safe and positive journey, while providing excellent customer service throughout their time on board.

This is a shift-based role averaging 35 hours per week, including early starts, late finishes, weekends and bank holidays.

• Previous front-line customer service experience is desirable, but not essential.

• You must live within a maximum 60-minute travelling time of the depot.
• You’ll need to successfully complete a medical assessment, including hearing, vision and colour vision tests.
• Full training will be provided, giving you the skills and knowledge you need to succeed as a GWR Conductor.
