Job description

At Close Brothers we look to recruit individuals from all different backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don't tick every box. We celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity and are open to discuss flexible work options to help you balance your work and home life.

Join Close Brothers Retail Division and play a pivotal role in supporting our Motor Finance business. You'll enable management teams to make informed, risk‑aware decisions, provide business leaders with clarity on risk exposures in the context of strategic choices, and ensure transparent reporting for customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.

In this role, you'll help deliver good outcomes for our customers by evidencing robust risk management and supporting oversight through our Risk Committees. Your expertise will underpin the integrity of our processes and strengthen confidence across the organisation.

To succeed, you'll bring a strong background in risk and controls, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to influence at all levels. You'll be adept at producing high‑quality MI, presenting complex information clearly, and solving problems with precision, creativity and insight.

The role offers a hybrid working structure from either our Doncaster or Manchester offices. Some travel between the two sites may be necessary from time to time.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify, assess and monitor commercial, operational, conduct and control risks, ensuring effective mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain accurate risk reporting, root cause analysis and remediation in line with internal and external standards.
  • Develop and manage the risk register, tracking issues through to resolution.
  • Embed risk management processes across teams and build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensure product compliance and good customer outcomes through a deep understanding of business products.
  • Conduct risk assessments, control testing and policy reviews to maintain robust governance.
  • Coordinate audits and prepare governance reports, dashboards and MI for risk committees and leadership forums.
  • Drive process improvements and deliver training to enhance risk awareness and efficiency.
  • Monitor key risk indicators, milestones and actions in line with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF).
PREREQUISITES
  • Strong experience in governance, risk management and compliance functions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility across all levels.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills in complex environments.
  • Advanced analytical ability to interpret data, produce high‑quality MI and identify risk themes.
  • Skilled in root cause analysis and problem‑solving under tight deadlines.
  • Highly organised, adaptable and able to prioritise effectively in a fast‑paced setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and disciplined approach to meeting deadlines.
IT IS NOT ESSENTIAL BUT IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE:
  • Experience within financial services or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with control frameworks and risk management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of management information practices.
  • Ability to handle challenging conversations and provide constructive feedback.

At Close Brothers we support employees to balance their work life priorities and in this role you will be able to enjoy a mixture of hybrid working.
