About the Role

Reporting into the Readymix Technical Optimisation Manager, the successful Concrete Technologist will be playing a critical role in supporting the delivery of technically demanding and strategically important infrastructure schemes across the UK. You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, compliance, and innovation of concrete solutions used on major projects, working closely with internal teams, clients, and contractors.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you as the successful Concrete Technologist will be carrying out the following duties and responsibilities (not exhaustive)

  • Major Technical project support – leading on concrete mix design, testing, and optimisation for large-scale infrastructure projects such as HS2 and highways. Providing on-site and remote technical support during delivery of major projects and ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance – managing trial mix programs and laboratory testing to validate performance while maintaining accurate technical documentation and supporting third‑party audits.
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance in all laboratory and site activities.
  • Promoting low‑carbon concrete strategies aligned with Tarmac's sustainability goals.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to develop bespoke concrete solutions including low‑carbon, high‑durability and specialist mixes.
  • Supporting the deployment of new technologies such as alternative binder systems.
