Job Description

More about our mission and what we offer.

Join Wise as a Compliance Manager, playing a pivotal role in shaping and executing our core compliance frameworks within a global, rapidly expanding Fintech. You'll be instrumental in ensuring Wisers globally adhere to regulatory requirements, ethical boundaries, and internal policy frameworks, directly contributing to our sustainable growth and mission of making money borderless.

Reporting into the Group Regulatory Compliance Team, you will manage a global remit focusing on anti-bribery and corruption, donations, gifts and entertainment, third party due diligence, conflicts of interest, and other general compliance matters. We are looking for an entrepreneurial compliance professional who thrives building things from scratch, is adept at future-proofing programmes as we scale, and who is constantly identifying opportunities to enhance and streamline processes. You will also be comfortable being flexible in your role and picking up work in other areas of the team where required. Work is busy and varied as Wise continues to progress its mission. We are therefore looking for a generalist compliance manager with Anti-Bribery and Corruption and Conflicts of Interest experience.

Your Mission
  • Policy & Core Ethics Framework Ownership: Design, implement, and maintain the global compliance frameworks for Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC), Gifts, Entertainment & Hospitality (GEH), and Conflicts of Interest, ensuring alignment with local regulations across all our operating jurisdictions, and the design of effective and robust controls. This will include having oversight of how teams across Wise implement processes to support the overall framework.
  • Conflicts & Registry Management: Own the operational design and enforcement of our global registers, ensuring associated policies and standards are effectively socialised and embedded across the business.
  • EWRA & Governance Reporting: Lead Wise’s Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment where required. Prepare high-quality governance reports and Management Information (MI) for the Board and Senior Management, highlighting emerging trends and control effectiveness. Act as a trusted partner supporting local Compliance Officers, and other global compliance colleagues on critical cross‑border projects and initiatives.
  • Third-Party Risk & Due Diligence: Own the framework for vendor and partner compliance. Run robust compliance due diligence checks, review red flag reports regarding third parties and suppliers, and ensure risk‑mitigation steps are executed seamlessly alongside Third Party Risk Management.
  • Individual Accountability & Regulatory Conduct: Manage and scale Wise's alignment with global individual accountability regimes (e.g., mapping executive responsibilities, overseeing regulatory "Fit and Proper" assessment frameworks, and tracking conduct‑related certifications across regional entities) where required.
  • Policy Breach Investigations: Oversee the compliance investigation pathway for internal policy breaches, ensuring root‑cause analysis is performed to prevent future operational gaps.
  • Consumer Protection Frameworks: Provide group‑wide compliance horizon scanning, testing, and monitoring against evolving global consumer protection legislation and payment transparency standards.
  • Future-proofing, and automation: Actively look for opportunities to enhance, automate, and streamline our activities to replace manual compliance tracking with scalable, automation‑first solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership & Culture: Partner dynamically with the People Team, Compliance Learning, Third Party Risk Management, and other key internal stakeholders to drive and embed compliance initiatives globally. Support the drafting and delivery of clear, highly engaging Ethics & Compliance presentations across the business.
This Role Will Give You The Opportunity To
  • Build from scratch: You are energised by picking up projects that are work in progress - even blank. You can take ambiguous concepts and engineer clean, robust, and scalable operational workflows from day one. You will build frameworks and processes that are future-proof and scalable.
  • Champion a data-driven approach to ethics and conduct risk management, simplifying complex multi-jurisdictional obligations and eliminating operational bottlenecks.
  • Drive international impact by collaborating with compliance officer networks across North America, APAC, and Europe to harmonise core ethics standards.
  • Inspire and influence stakeholders with clear communication, pragmatic advice, and a passion for creating a highly accountable corporate environment.
  • Own project lifecycles end-to-end, building automated tech solutions to track registers, simplify disclosures, and track clear compliance metrics.
Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have exceptional organisational, analytical, and relationship‑building skills, with a background in compliance and ethics. More specifically, we’re looking for someone who can demonstrate these attributes:

  • Experience: Proven experience (5+ years) in Financial Crime Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, or Governance within a financial institution, bank, mature fintech, or another highly regulated and/or publicly traded U.S. or international business
  • Technical & Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the UK Bribery Act, US FCPA, and global compliance standards regarding conflicts of interest. Strong baseline knowledge of individual accountability regimes (e.g., SMCR or regional equivalents) and general retail consumer protection legislation.
  • Operational Mindset: You don’t just read regulations; you know how to build the processes, automated workflows, and clear approval hierarchies that make sense for Wise. You are highly comfortable leveraging software or platforms to manage processes, and identify opportunities for enhancement.
  • Communication & Constructive Challenge: You possess exceptional drafting skills with an ability to explain complex regulatory concepts to non‑compliance audiences without losing the nuance. You hold unwavering ethical standards and the confidence to provide constructive feedback to senior leaders when navigating conflicts or accountability boundaries.
  • Rigor & Analytics: A problem‑solver who thinks deeply about data. You have a knack for looking at compliance metrics or policy breaches, diagnosing the root cause, and engineering a lasting procedural fix.
  • Passion & Collaboration: You get a kick out of improving current practices and seeing projects through. You are self‑motivated, have a can‑do attitude, and love to collaborate across different regions while leading by example to demonstrate Wise values.
