Job summary

Solutions Driven in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Project Compliance Engineer to lead certification activities for consumer electronics. You will translate complex regulatory standards into engineering inputs, coordinate testing with labs, and ensure labeling, packaging and safety requirements across markets are met.

The role emphasizes hands-on RCA/DFMEA, EMC assessment and clear communication with stakeholders to keep projects on track within a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience: electrical or firmware engineering with a track record of navigating consumer goods regulations.
  • Technical Analysis: Hands-on Root-Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA / PFMEA).
  • Communication: Ability to summarize complex information and present it to peers or project teams.
  • EMC Experience: Assess EMC, impulse, and transient voltage test results and coordinate retests with labs.
  • Awareness of functional safety principles (IEC 60730) – understand test reports and explain non-conformities to SMEs.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory/compliance requirements across EU, US, Australia and China.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the certification process for assigned products, acting as the main contact for project teams.
  • Distill regulatory standards (IEC, EN, UL, FCC/IC, GB) into clear engineering inputs and documentation.
  • Coordinate lab testing and ensure timely data availability and accuracy for compliance.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into labeling, packaging and technical file upkeep across markets.

Job description

  • Project Delivery: Implement and manage the certification process for assigned projects, ensuring products meet strict requirements for global markets. On these projects you will act as the primary point of contact/consultant to the project team in the areas of:
  • Chemical Compliance – Restricted Substances: banned and restricted substances. tracking and collection of test reports to ensure compliance requirements are met
  • Chemical Compliance – Food Contact Materials: collecting and maintaining test reports from suppliers against EU regulation and EU national differences, as well as US FDA and China GB standards.
  • Labelling & Packaging Compliance: ensuring the product labelling and packaging regulatory requirements across all markets are met.
  • Technical Standards Application: ensure all standards (gas and electrical) are properly accounted for and applied/followed including gas appliance regulations, electrical safety (complete regional coverage), wireless/EMC certifications and functional safety principles
  • Operational Planning: Plan 6–12 months ahead, aligning your individual work with department goals and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Problem Solving: Solve most functional problems independently on a week-to-week basis and adapt quickly to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Technical Specification: Distill dense regulatory standards (e.g., IEC, EN, UL, FCC/IC, AS/NZS, GB) into clear engineering specifications and design inputs.
  • Documentation: Produce and maintain compliance declarations and product technical files, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements.
  • External Liaison: Act as the vital link between Ooni and test labs; quality-check and challenge work from external partners.
  • Data Accuracy: Assess data fairly to make well-informed decisions, knowing when to seek support from senior members for decisions involving incomplete data.
  • EMC & Transient Voltages: Navigate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), impulse, and transient voltage requirements as part of certification planning.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Experience: electrical or firmware engineering with a track record of navigating consumer goods regulations.
  • Technical Analysis: Hands-on experience with Root-Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA / PFMEA).
  • Communication: Ability to summarize complex information and present it confidently to an audience of peers or your immediate team.
  • EMC Experience: Proven ability to assess EMC, impulse, and transient voltage test results and coordinate retests with labs.
  • Awareness of functional safety principles (IEC 60730) – sufficient to understand test reports and enlighten non-conformities to the subject matter expert. No independent delivery required.
  • Working knowledge of key regulatory/compliance requirements - common to our types of products including but not limited to Regulatory, Labelling & Packaging, Cybersecurity and Gas & Electric Technical Standards across the EU, US, Australia And China
Nice to have:
  • Experience of managing compliance requirements within a heavily regulated industry, for instance medical, automotive or aerospace.
  • A proactive understanding of upcoming digital and cybersecurity legislation (such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act taking effect in Jan 2027) and how it impacts product roadmaps.
