Job summary

A supportive social services organization in Hatfield is seeking a Recovery Worker to support individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of it. You will play a crucial role in establishing effective communication pathways and assisting these individuals on their recovery journey. Ideal candidates will have experience with homelessness, substance misuse issues, and excellent communication skills. The position is full-time with a salary range of £27,861.26 to £32,002.35, along with various employee benefits.

As a Recovery Worker with Change Grow Live you'll work with people who use our services helping them get to where they want to be.

An innovative and exciting specialist service for homeless or those at risk of homelessness is being provided in partnership with Change Grow Live- Spectrum Herts County Council and Hertfordshire Mind Network.

We are pleased to announce that we are looking to recruit a staff member to join the dedicated multi‑disciplinary teams across Hertfordshire to support rough sleepers or those at risk of homelessness with harm reduction and engagement into treatment services.

Change Grow Live services and staff will provide wraparound support. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual and friendly face to help support people in leading healthier lives.

You will focus on engaging with people who have a housing need alongside substance misuse. You will have some experience of engaging with individuals with multiple and/or complex needs and demonstrate a determined approach to finding solutions.

Job Details
  • Location: Hatfield
  • Full time hours: 37.5 per week
  • Full time salary range: £27,861.26 - £32,002.35 (based on full time hours, pro rata for part time)
  • Outer Fringe Weighting: £694.25 (pro rata)
  • Contract type: Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2026
  • Note: Full‑time hours are 37.5 hours per week. For part‑time roles the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.
Responsibilities
  • Establishing effective communication and referral pathways for those individuals who are homeless and in contact with other health and care agencies
  • Work closely with the local authority Health & Social care sector partners and any provision linked to Homelessness and improve joint working attending multi‑disciplinary meetings when as and when required
  • Supporting service users from point of entry into the service and through their treatment / recovery journey
  • Providing screening assessment and recovery planning and onward referral
  • Coordinate the transfer of any accommodated out of area individual. This may include referral to and liaison with their new drug and alcohol service and pharmacy and provision of bridging prescription until an appointment and prescription is provided. Promoting carer service user and community involvement
  • Providing advocacy for access to partnership services
  • Working with service users to support social (re)integration enabling them to lead meaningful and purposeful lives : promoting recovery resilience peer support and self‑determination
About you
  • Prior knowledge and experience of working with people who are homeless sleeping rough or sofa surfing
  • Have a strong knowledge and understanding of substance misuse issues
  • Experience of engaging with a wide variety of individuals with a variety of backgrounds and needs
  • Be an excellent communicator both verbal and written with good IT skills
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative with excellent time management and prioritising skills
  • Have a good working knowledge of mental health interventions services and good practice
  • Be a supportive team player with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of professionals agencies and internal / external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage change successfully in a way that prioritises the needs of service users
  • Understand the importance of information governance processes and commit to follow and apply all necessary safeguards
