Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the District Nursing Service for a Community Staff Nurse covering the Out of hours service in North Tyneside and Northumberland.

We are looking for enthusiastic staff nurses to join our district nursing teams based at The Health and Care Academy, a fantastic opportunity to become a team member in an exciting service committed to providing patient‑centred care to patients in their own homes, residential care settings and clinics. We are keen to provide our staff with development opportunities to enhance their skills, knowledge and career progression within the District Nursing Service, while providing high quality and safe service in line with the Trust Values.

Successful applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities
  • Work autonomously as part of a team, reporting directly to the line manager and community nursing team lead, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for a diverse group of patients with a wide range of conditions and health needs.
  • Develop and deliver programmes of health and social care.
  • Deliver care and support to patients with a terminal illness and their families, including the provision of emotional and bereavement support.
  • Perform skilled nursing care including aspects of assessment, wound management, palliative care and catheterisation.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as the Ankle Brachial Pressure Index using Doppler and interpret the results to decide further courses of action.
  • Perform procedures that require fine dexterity and skill such as venepuncture, drug administration by injection and removal of sutures.
  • Interpret results and communicate these to patients (e.g., blood glucose estimation); explain aspects of care to patients and carers, allowing the opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns.
  • Maintain and promote high standards of professional practice, sharing approaches and experience with others.
  • Maintain a duty of care to patients, carers and colleagues through exercise of personal and professional accountability.
