Job description

From 1 December 2025, our updated Pay and Reward package will take effect, introducing a new approach to recognising and rewarding roles across the Council. As part of this change, the salary for this role will be adjusted to a pay range of £33,699 – £39,152 (pro‑rate for part time).

Role Purpose

BCP Council is committed to and has made significant investment in building up its Community Safety capacity to support the BCP Community Safety Partnership with an ambitious strategy and action plan to realise our vision ‘to make Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole a safer and healthier place where communities and businesses thrive and where residents and visitors feel safe and welcomed’.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Council’s Community Safety Team and the Community Safety Partnership through the delivery of strategies and plans within multi‑agency groups and meetings.
  • Engage with Council services, and regional, national and local agencies.
  • Undertake a range of Community Safety projects, support current local initiatives and be a core contributor to new and developing initiatives working closely with partners such as Dorset Police.
  • Support the Community Safety Manager and Community Safety Team Leader across a range of work, including serious violent crime, preventing violent extremism, exploitation and other emerging issues.
  • Engage with a wide range of people and services, working as part of a fast‑paced team with varied workstreams, maintaining relationships with senior officers, elected members of the Council and relevant stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative team player who enjoys supporting others to work alongside us in strategic project work across all aspects of Community Safety. The successful candidate must:

  • Have great interpersonal skills, be flexible, and be familiar with the Microsoft suite including MS Teams, Excel and Outlook.
  • Have experience arranging meetings and taking minutes and actions, delivering presentations and independently prioritising workload.
  • Be degree educated or equivalent and have at least three years of relevant experience regarding the subject matters mentioned.
  • Be comfortable working on a hybrid basis, with flexible hours and the option to work from the BCP Civic Centre or other locations as required.
